Tanya C. S. Huang was born in Taiwan.

Her family moved to the U.S. when she was 4, and she began playing violin two years later. Her classical training led to many years of playing with chamber groups, orchestras, and theatre productions. Moving to New Orleans and joining Mother Tongue gave her a fresh perspective on the violin, adapting her classical training to all types of music.

Tanya studied art and sign language in college, and served as an AmeriCorps volunteer for an agricultural community. She has backpacked and/or hitchiked through Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, Europe, Morocco, and Taiwan.

In 2006 - 07, Tanya took time off to do a lot of things she always wanted to do, like learn how to record an album and make web sites. She continues to dabble with other instruments like piano and guitar and tries to enjoy nature whenever she can.
